The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy – Douglas Adams (1979)

Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhickers Guide to The Galaxy is a comedic science fiction novel, surrounding Earthling Arthur Dent, his friend from Betelgeuse Ford Prefect, the renegade President of The Galaxy Zaphod Beeblebrox, human scientist Trillian and manically depressed robot Marvin. Arthur Dent is rescued by his friend Ford when the Vogon race destroy the Earth to make room for an Intergalactic Expressway, and they find themselves in the company of Beeblebrox, Ford’s semi-cousin, and his girlfriend Trillian. The book that brought us The Answer to Everything, Babel Fish, the Paranoid Android, and a satire on the nonsense of government bureaucracy, H2G2 is a classic. Readers will find it enjoyable and easy to read. Laughing out loud, or chuckling to one’s self must be expected. Whovians will be interested to know that Adams was one of the original writers for Doctor Who, and fans of the Netflix series, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency will be interested to know that he wrote that one as well. 184 pages
