This weekend’s read is The Burglary: The Discovery of J. Edgar Hoover’s Secret FBI by Betty Medsger (2014)

You’ve heard of Watergate, and Woodward and Bernstein from the Washington Post, but have you heard of the Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI and the 8 burglars who broke into the FBI field office in Media, PA?

This book is about the 8 burglars who had never been caught for stealing all of the files in a small FBI office in the late 1970s. Proving that the FBI was investigating, wiretapping and following American citizens on American soil, and working to discourage dissent by any means necessary, the release of the files struck the first of many blows to Hoover’s FBI.

I will be providing a review as soon as I have this one finished. But if you are at all interested in the last great period of North American Civil Unrest, prior to the one we live in now, this is something to pick up!
