Stalin’s Daughter: The Extraordinary and Tumultuous Life of Svetlana Alliluyeva by Rosemary Sullivan (2015)

The biography of Svetlana Alliluyeva, Dictator Joseph Stalin’s only daughter, is fascinating both because of the subject herself, and because of her proximity to so much chaos. The daughter of Communism in Russia, Alliluyeva existed in a swirl of privilege and fear. I found the most fascinating part of the massive (741 pages, including Index) book to be the history lesson in its pages. Alliluyeva herself is a picture of a woman who was raised in such paranoia, that she cannot distinguish what is real and what is imagined.
I did enjoy the book, but it is long, and intense, and requires a good amount of interest in world history and politics.
