Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” ~ Malcolm X
This is accurate for all forms of media. Think critically. Value human rights. Live your values.
Thank you for believing that I had more talent or skill than I ever did. Thank you for teaching me that hard work is hard work, but worth doing. Thank you for teaching me to be proud of my Métis heritage. Thank you for waking me up in the middle of the night to see the first snowfall. Thank you for laying in the dark looking at comets and searching for shooting stars. Thank you for teaching me that having a book with you at all times is worth it. Thank you for always being “wonderful” and for being full of wonder.
You’ve had a very significant and a very full life. You’ve been homeless, and you’ve built businesses. You watched Dad TV, and now I find that I am doing the same, even Star Trek, most times when I turn on the TV. You told me that I could make a big difference in the world. You told me that my voice mattered. I am finally learning to do this.
Happy birthday, dad. I hope you enjoy your coffee and books. I hope you enjoyed your day. Love you always, your first born.
My daughter is excited to be raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). All the profits from the sale of these T-shirts will go directly to CCS. She is so grateful to how CCS helped her, her daddy and our entire family through his cancer treatments, and wants to help other families facing cancer.
Follow the link, if you are interested in supporting her and CCS!
