Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
Meal prep Sunday in the kitchen on my own, with Jen Sincero on Audible – picking up tips on living the best life possible.
“*The definition of screwing someone over is taking their money and doing a lousy job or destroying their water source or enslaving populations, things like that—your mother being disappointed or your father disapproving or your friends being outraged does not qualify as screwing someone over” ~ Jen Sincero

In 1936, Dale Carnegie wrote what is generally considered to be the first self-help book. Still a best seller due to its common sense advice on appealing to others and expanding the reader’s sphere of influence. In the “digital age” when most communication is electronic, be they tweets, email, texts or Facebook posts, some of Carnegie’s advice needed updating. Replete with suggestions to increase the reader’s online profile, and examples of successful digital initiatives, How To Win is a must read for anyone who seeks success in the online forum. (279 pgs)
1 – I do not agree with being referred to as a “girl”; and
2 – I do not believe that being a “nice” person automatically means that one will not be successful.
HOWEVER, I do lack a certain level of assertiveness that one needs to possess in order to make strides in the business world, and therefore, I am hoping that Lois P. Franker, Ph D, may have some tips for me.
On a snowy weekend, I am excited to curl up with a favourite book! Who are your favourites?? In 2016, the world watched as the United States of America was set to elect its first female President. It was inconceivable that Hillary Rodham Clinton – a lawyer, politician and former Secretary of State – could lose to a narcissistic madman with a penchant for sexual assault… And then she did. As we picked our collective jaws up off of the ground, wiped away tears of disbelief, and prepared for the worst, we wondered “what happened?? HOW did this happen? How did the vast majority of the popular vote count for nothing, in the end?” Clinton was having all the same thoughts and then some. One of the biggest complaints throughout the election was that Clinton kept her opinions to herself. She refused, as often as possible, to pull punches and demand that her opponent be thrown in jail, as he so often did to her. In 2017, HRC dropped the gloves. Written as an anthology of essays, separated by category, Clinton used the writing of this book as a catharsis for understanding the elements at play in the US that led to this ridiculous defeat, and the election of a fool. Ranging from personal memoir, to economic treatise, to domestic and international policy, Clinton lays bear the events that transpired, along with her personal reactions along the way. Far from a blame game, HRC takes ownership of her own missteps and foibles – yes, even addressing “those damn emails”. She explains the electoral system in the US, the role of the media, the interference by foreign governments and the FBI, she explains voter fraud and what it really means for her country. This book is meant for fans of HRC, political junkies, and all of us who followed the 2016 election and have sought to understand “what happened”.
#leadership via @RiplApp The infantilism of women stops when we refuse to be seen as small and cute. When we are seen as strong, opinionated and empowered.
Jennifer Lawrence was an “adorkable” it girl. Then she became successful and people turned on her for being less “real”. Women in all walks of life face this – you are ok as long as you are Non-threatening; as long as you don’t take up space; as long as you are cute. Women are not here to be cute or likeable, we are here to engage fully in our lives to the same extent as our male counterparts. #kalidesautelsreads #jenniferlawrence #empowerment #womenempowerment #empoweredwomen #adorable #quotes #quotestoliveby #quote #day #bloggers #blogger #blogging #blog #oscars #feminist #feminism #womensrights #metoo #timesupnow #timesup @timesupnow @jenniferlawrencepx
