Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
Day 3 of my favourite movies as nominated by @u_n_i_c_o_r_n_b_a_b_y_ and @brennaduperron. I nominate @m_a_h_r_o_s_h! Pick your 10 favourite movies and post them one day at a time for 10 days!
There shouldn’t be any shame associated with taking anti-depressants if necessary✌🏽Some people have a chemcal imbalance in their brain synapses of serotonin that can be properly adjusted and regulated using supplementation!🌟Medication is not right for everyone seeking treatment for depression (or other mental disorders) but it definitely is a good option for some✨🤸🏼♂️🧠 (via @binchcity) #themoreyouknow #lessjudgement
True story. You rock. You are awesome. You are funny. You are smart. You are creative. You rule. You are beautiful. You deserve great thing. You know that thing that you want? Go get it, because you would rock it. Red high heels? Totally your jam. Messy bun with stained pj pants because the baby was up sick all night? Lady, you make that look good. Your baby is so lucky to have you as a mama. No kids and an amazing travel schedule? Awesome! I am so lucky to know you. You are badass. You light this world on fire just by your very existence. You can do anything. You want to build a corporation? You will do it. You want to raise an armful of kiddos who can recite the Princess Bride? The world needs them. Seriously, lady, you are so flipping awesome, I can’t even handle it right now. Now go do that thing!! …
Nominated by @u_n_i_c_o_r_n_b_a_b_y_ to post my favourite movie poster to insta. …
You guys, I was wayyyy to young to understand Grease when I saw it the first seven million times, but oh my god how I loved it! Love it to. This. Day…. I wonder if my kids are@old enough to enjoy it, but not old enough to “get” it… what do you think @brennaduperron? 😉
If you want to be a writer, write. Don’t wish to be a writer, because as with anything, the act of doing makes it so. Want to be a runner? Run! Want to be a cook? Cook! Want to be a mom? Grab some kids… ok, don’t do that. That’s a bad idea. But you get my drift. Will everything you do turn out perfectly? Absolutely not! But will it get better by leaving it in your daydreams? Nope. So practice. Try. Light your freaking soul on fire. ….
I have always loved unique accessories – a yellow raincoat that made me look like a high liner, converse sneakers covered in gold sequins, leggings with comic book characters all over them – so when my grandmother, mom and I found these Kate Spade slip on sneakers, with their taxi motif, they were impossible to resist. The bag? Yeah, that’s from one of my closest friends. She said that I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie could only belong to one person on her friends list. Lucky for me, it was me!!!!

Double tap if you would notice these sneakers a mile away! 😉 🚕 🚕 …
Shout out to all the entrepreneurs who are working while other people have a weekend! Shout out to all the mamas who had to find childcare today so they could go to Starbucks and get a few hours to focus on their business. Shout out to anyone who works full-time for someone else and part-time for their dreams. Shout out to the hustlers. Shout out to those who FIND A WAY. Shout out to anyone who will live their life in a way other people won’t so they can have a life other people can’t!

It isn’t easy to build a business. It’s a long road, it’s a hard road and there are people in your life who will caution you against it. “Slow down,” they’ll say. “There’s no reason to work this hard.” Or “We haven’t seen you in forever,” they’ll try to guilt you. Or my personal favorite for entrepreneur-mamas, “What is it going to do to your family if you take time away from them?!” Look friends, when you begin to change and grow it will often make other people in your life nervous. Either because they are genuinely concerned about something they don’t understand or because your growth reminds them that they’re stagnant. It’s unfortunate that every budding entrepreneur doesn’t come with their own hype squad but you can’t let it stop you and you shouldn’t let it distract you. They don’t need to understand your dreams, they don’t even need to support them. This is YOUR dream which means YOU’RE the one who’s going to have to do the work. YOU’RE the one who’s going to have to fight for the time and the focus to be productive. You’ve put too much work into your dream… don’t let it die inside of you. Find the time. Find the will. Find the focus. Put your head down and get back to work! 👇🏼Tag someone who needs this encouragement! #MadeForMore #entrepreneurquotes #rfempower #kalidesautelsreads #book #bookstagram #bookclub #books #reading #online #rachelhollis #girlwashyourface #women #personalgrowth #personaldevelopment #discussion #join #collab #coffee #wine #read #reader #instagood #follow #followers #followforlike #followforfollowback #like #love #hollisco

I love coffee. I know, you’re shocked. I keep it a big secret. But weekend morning coffee is my favourite. I get to sleep in until 7:30 or 8, sit at my table with Dave and enjoy a mug of coffee WHILE IT’S STILL HOT! Seriously, you guys! Have you even had a hot cup of coffee?? It’s soooo much better than the lukewarm one on your desk or the cold one you discover again 2 hours after your toddler woke up. Like, I think this is how coffee is MEANT to taste!! 🤣
