Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
It is a good day for a Dwight Schrute quote. Ridiculously good advice – “Before I do anything, I ask myself, “Would an idiot do that?” If the answer is yes, I do not do that thing.”
Tonight, I spent the entire evening cuddled up on the sofa of my best friend’s back porch, chatting, giggling, talking politics, listening to our kids have a great time, commiserating, figuring out our enneagram numbers, and just enjoy each other’s company. It was a perfect Friday night and I am so happy to have this woman in my life. We go together like cupcakes and frosting, and even our enneagram numbers match up 😉
Rest In Peace, Senator McCain. It is with genuine sadness that I learn of John McCain’s passing today. I respected and admired him for his staunch belief in the fundamental good of his country. As a liberal, I hold many differing political beliefs to his, but I admired him for his belief in the protection of all people in his country. I admired his desire to put party politics aside and cross the aisle when necessary, never giving up his values in the face of the party whip. I will sincerely miss his poignant and well-spoken manner, along with his life time of wisdom, in a world that desperately needs the wise. …
Tomorrow, I will have 2 opportunities to meet new people. Here’s hoping that CS Lewis’ quote is my reality tomorrow.
…
I am both excited and nervous to meet some badass women for lunch tomorrow, that I met through the Rachel Hollis x Canada Tribe Facebook Group. As a natural introvert (no, seriously, I am lol), it is often so uncomfortable for me to meet new people, and this is seriously stretching me out of my comfort zone. But, I am also excited because the best parts of life lie just outside of our comfort zones, and growth comes from trying new things. So, wish me luck… 😳😍❤️
…
The second thing that will allow me to meet new people is the RF Empower and KaliDesautelsReads presents Virtual Book Club discussing Rachel Hollis’ Girl, Wash Your Face!!! I am so excited about this! Siobhan and I are super excited to meet you all!! ❤️❤️❤️
Your habits. At first you make your habits and then your habits make you. I guess we are not aware enough, how our daily habits change our future, our health and happiness. Otherwise we would choose them much more wisely.
