Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
This little boy loves his Memere. It’s special to me to see my kids spending time with my parents. And I love that he is still little enough to willingly hold hands with us. This picture makes my heart happy.
When the sunsets in Hawaii, it is more beautiful and more colourful than anywhere else I have ever been. The palms, the surf, the clouds and the sky make for the most impressively beautiful picture. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to witness this. 🌅❤️🌺🌴🌊
This could be reframed for anyone – a parent, a leader, a boss, a President… and we could add at the beginning that a bad teacher/parent/leader/boss/President demands. We are all in a position to leave a mark on the people we are in contact with. None of us are immune to the Golden Rule. When we treat each other the way we want to be treated, when we excite learning and a fire in those around us, when we leave a space better than we found it, then we can inspire others to do the same. If we demand or tell or even demonstrate, we are simply trying to bend others to our way of doing things. That is not what the world needs right now. The world needs us to be inspired to think critically and to inspire those around us to do the same.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.
This little guy had a great time stamping soaps at the North Shore Soap Factory! There are so many Zero Waste soaps here, including one where the majority of the proceeds go to the victims of the Kilauea eruptions. Once you purchase your soap, you can choose a stamp and with a rubber mallet, engrave your soap with the image of your choice. My kiddo is crazy about the Shaka right now, and so he chose that one for his first soap.
Red eye has landed. Little man’s bag is as big as he is. Still carrying like a little trooper. I am awfully proud of my littles for how well they did on this flight! ❤️❤️❤️
