Charlotte’s Web is now a children’s classic, by one of America’s best-loved children’s authors. EB White is also the author of Stuart Little and The Trumpet of The Swan. The story of Fern, a little girl who saves Wilbur, the runt of a litter of pigs. The anthropomorphic animals do their best to save Wilbur from being served up for dinner. The cleverest of them all is Charlotte A. Cavatica, a spider with a tremendous vocabulary, who spins webs with words in them, drawing state wide attention to the special pig. A wonderful story about acceptance, tolerance, loss and the unique qualities of each person, Charlotte’s Web is best for children around the age of 8-11. (Or those like myself that are nostalgic for children’s literature in adulthood.) Some children may be upset by some of loss that Wilbur and Fern experience, so it is best to use discretion when introducing to young readers. In the interest of sharing the message that love is always a good thing, no matter where it is found, I recommend this book most highly. 184 pages.
