Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home – Rhoda Janzen (2009)

Janzen’s memoir is a very funny story of “going home again” to her close, conservative family after her husband leaves her for another man and she is seriously injured in a car accident. The love and support she feels by reentering a community that she had long since abandoned, in effect, reminds her of the teachings of the Mennonite faith, and of the willingness to help and the need we, as humans, have for the desire to have people rally for us in times of strife. At times a fish out of water story, it is also not that, as Janzen is returning, but with a more worldly view of the outside community. Very funny, only 257 pages.
