Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
So, today I had a full work day, then drive home in Friday traffic, then grab my family for a movie night – Avengers: Endgame!!! I am so glad to have a Gomae Sweet Potato Soul Pie to fill me up on the go!
Coming home from a long day to my grandmother’s homemade spaghetti, made by she and my daughter, covered in dairy-free Parmesan sprinkles, and served with vegan noodles and Canada Dry Ginger Ale, was pretty much the best thing that could ever happen. Comfort food is called comfort for a reason.
Posted @withrepost • @stagethreestudio I don’t know if this is a thing or not but I’m going to call this a Thankful Thursday post… There is no better way to start such a thing than with my wife. I am the luckiest fool on the planet to have such a supportive, intelligent and all around amazing woman. I know that I would be dead in a ditch somewhere if it were not for her! Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo is one of her favourite bedtime books. With stunning art, this Kickstarter-funded project teaches children that there is no limit to what women and girls can and have accomplished. Tonight, she was excited to read me the Florence Nightengale and Coy Mathis stories when I came to tuck her in. She tends to have opinions on and questions about all of these women when she reads the stories, and it incites interesting bedtime conversations between my not-so-little girl and I. I highly recommend it!
100% Vegan. 100% Cruelty Free. 100% smells like Hawaii!!
When my daughter was 2, she was given a small bottle of Pacifica Indian Coconut Perfume at a Sephora in Hawaii, and after initially spraying herself like she was bathing in it, she lost interest and it became my signature scent. I have since gone through about 4 of the small batch perfume bottles, loving the scent, loving that it is cruelty-Free, loving that it is vegan. This year, I was gifted the Pacifica Coconut Milk Cream To Foam Face Wash. It smells sooooo good, and is gentle on my skin.
And this is NOT an ad… just a very, very happy customer sharing the eco-friendly beauty treatment!
I will add the Pacifica line to my Amazon Storefront today! The link is below!
Meatless Monday up in here! My brother has been reminding me regularly how much my kids loooooove Brussels sprouts, and we got the world’s largest sweet potatoes 🍠 last week, so I combined them, added carrots 🥕, organic olive oil, Maui onion salt and threw them in the oven to roast. They will be served with Gardein mandarin crispy meat-Free chick’n, and an Asian salad 🥗.
Now if I could find Gardein without the wasted package I would be so happy!!
