Originally intended to simply focus on book reviews, over time, KaliDesautelsReads has morphed into its own entity.
I write about issues that are near to my heart, be they political, feminist, motherhood, mental health, or, as the title holds, books.
A thirty-something Canadian woman in my mid-thirties, I have been “super married” to my high school sweetheart since 2006, and together we have two crazy, clever, kind, hilarious, wonderful kids.
My first book – How Not To Blog: Finding Myself, One Post at a Time is available on Amazon (in eBook formats for you clever tech readers, and paperback for those of us who love that new book smell!)
I have tried a podcast – it’s still on Apple and Google Podcasts – but writing is where my heart is.
My life changed dramatically when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer in 2018, and I am now a writer for a leading Canadian Cancer Non-Profit.
I am lucky enough to have a family that loves me and pushes me to be my best, even if it is outside of my cushiony comfort zone. I have a village of friends that nourish me, mentally, and spiritually.
Welcome to my thoughts. Sit down. Stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee!
Feminism is the belief in equality between sexes. Feminism is the understanding that all people, regardless of gender, orientation, race, religious affiliation, or ability have something to contribute. Thanks to this belief, my husband is being treated, and, if everything goes according to plan, cured of his cancer.

Balancing one kid’s need for time to himself, and another’s need for friends can be tricky. When a family friend comes to hang out and have dinner, it’s the perfect mix. …….
You know when you feel super emotional, and sentimental, and like you might cry if you watch a Hallmark commercial? That’s where my head has been this week. .

This man whom I love, and my partner in life is tired and sick and scared. All I can do is just be with him now. I can’t fix it, I can’t even make him feel better, but I can sit with him, and I can listen and I can take notes. …….
And while I take care of him, I am so blessed to have family to take care of me. The tears keep coming, but my family keeps showing up for me, and I can never, ever thank them enough for letting me be here, where he needs me. …………

This week, some of my favourite people in the world are being celebrated and are celebrating. My bestest bestie is celebrating her birthday, and my brother and sister-in-law are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. (Coincidentally, the anniversary and her birthday are the same day!) .
.
.
Today, I went to dinner to celebrate the woman who came into my life and has become my family. I am so grateful for her. Getting out of the house and forgetting things other than my love for her was a wonderful break. .

This week, our family is coming from all over the country to celebrate that my brother and his very best friend have been married for 10 years. I am so looking forward to our family being together, dressing up and reminding ourselves that family and friends, in the end, are all that matter in this world. When my brother met my sister-in-law, he also met my confidante, and my best friend. I can’t wait to spend a week raising my glass to this. They are seriously #couplegoals
…………
Things get hard. Things suck. As Brené Brown (who, I believe got it from the US Military) says sometimes you have to embrace the suck. Don’t let it drown you. There is something to celebrate everyday. You will get through this. We will get through this. The bottom is hard, but it sure gives you something to kick off from. …………

My family is coming together!! Ty and Danielle are having a wedding redux, B&B flew all day with Vandals Doughnuts, it snowed, we all got our butts kicked a little, but we got together, and had a great evening! Let the wedding festivities begin!! ……..
Happy birthday to my beautiful, amazing, smart, creative, strong, artistic, creative, loving, thoughtful, passionate, amazing kindred spirit. In 2013, I met the woman who would knock Lucille Ball out of top spot for my favourite redhead of all time. We have been “there and back again” together through more things than I can count, or even remember, and I am so grateful to have you to walk through life with. In 2019, we are family forever, and I love you more than ever. I genuinely cannot believe that we have not known each other our whole lives, but I am so glad we have the rest of our lives together. I love you so very much. ❤️❤️❤️
Repost from @stagethreestudio using @RepostRegramApp – Today I have officially changed from White Knight Design to Stage Three Studio. As many of my family and friends know, I was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer during this past Christmas. Due to the advanced stage and the effect it has had on my day to day life, I was forced to leave a job I loved as well as discontinue many of my other activities. In order to help pass the time between treatments I have decided to pursue my interest in art, specifically pyrography. My grandmother-in-law was kind enough to provide me with a @walnuthollow versa tool and thankfully the wonderful people @_timelesswinecellars have been kind enough to keep me stocked in wood for my projects. My hope is to create an Etsy shop with my works and if successful donate partial proceeds to cancer research. This will be an evolving beast as time goes on and I look forward to this journey with all of you. #newlook #pyrography #newventure #art #etsy #colorectalcancer #stagethreestudio #followyourdreams #takeyourlifeback #lemonadefromlemons #support #thankstofamily #thankstofriends #timelesswinecellars #vancouversauna #walnuthollow
