Kali J Desautels

Welcome to my little corner of the internet.

“Who’s your friend who likes to play?

Bing Bong, Bing Bong

His rocket makes you yell “Hooray!”

Bing Bong, Bing Bong

Who’s the best in every way, and wants to sing this song to say

Bing Bong, Bing Bong!”

My boy has gone to Disneyland with his Auntie and Uncle this weekend to close out spring break, and my brother sent me this picture of Bing Bong on a huge pile of candy, that I can only assume is a candy store in Pixar Pier in California Adventure.

You guys, I get that Inside Out is directed at kids and that Bing Bong is an imaginary friend, but my goodness that movie gives me all the feels, Bing Bing especially. As a person who has spoken openly about mental health, I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of a movie that teaches kids that all of their feelings have value and how to approach them. So, if you are not lucky enough to be running around Disneyland with heroes, like my son is this weekend, consider watching Inside Out with your kids and talking to them about the themes in the movie. It is never too early to start talking about how kids feel and why.

Also – when they talk about them, try not to dismiss them. The things that sound small to you feel awfully big for littles. And like the saying goes – if you don’t listen to the small things, they won’t tell you about the big ones.
