It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and I sharing the gratitude I feel for the people that I get to share my life with. I am thankful for my mommy – she made my childhood amazing and magical, and I am now blessed that she is my very best friend. We have this crazy connection that makes others laugh at us – if I am struggling, the next thing that I know, no matter where on the Earth she is, my phone rings and it is her, saying she had a feeling that I needed her; when we go shopping we will call to each other from opposite sides of the store, and hold up the identical item, without knowing the other had been holding it, to get each other’s opinion; she knows when to tell me what I want to hear and she knows when to tell what I don’t want to hear but need to hear; she has taught me to sing just the chorus of Sad Songs by Elton John loudly in the car; she has taught me that the best way to end a bad mood is too dance it off. She is my hero, my role model, my favourite person, my Thelma, my Lucy (or maybe my Ethel? I tend to find myself in more situations than she does…) she taught me that a person doesn’t need many friends, they just need one or two good friends. She taught me that as long as you have something, you have something to give. She taught me how to be a woman, a mom, a friend, and was the first person to roll her eyes at my bizarre outfit combinations, while also being the first person to tell me that it didn’t matter if she liked it, I was the one who was wearing it, so it just mattered if I did. I am eternally grateful for my mom and even more so to her.
